Whole Body Vibration Plate

Balance TrainingMore research is showing support for whole body vibration (WBV) treatment.

Some of the clinical benefits of WBV include increased circulation and oxygenation of tissues, increased lymphatic drainage, endorphin release, improvement in balance and lowering of the stress hormone cortisol.

As it relates to skeletal muscle, the effect of vibration results in the scientific literature called ”tonic vibration reflex” (TVR. TVR is a repeated myotatic reflex or stretch reflex. The vibrated muscle has to work very hard while the subject balances on the platform. The effect per pulsation is similar to the knee jerk reflex. This muscle activity has been measured by use of electro myography (EMG). With vibration training, the muscles can work at an even higher intensity than with normal training, thus creating greater adaptation. This is an ideal way to train, especially when the muscle does not function properly, for example, with weakened muscles in the elderly or after injuries.

Many patient populations can benefit from WBV – patients with osteoporosis, individuals who require more challenging balance training, those looking to cross-train and activate muscle fibers that typically would not activate and those not responding to a typical exercise regimen.

At Neal Clinic in Pensacola, we are excited to offer cutting edge treatments such as WBV to chiropractic patients.
